The holiday season offers many opportunities to overindulge in the abundance of tempting and tantalizing treats. We may give ourselves permission to gorge on goodies and rationalize that we will deal with the consequences in January. We may also slack off on exercise thinking that you’ve blown your diet anyway, so why bother working out. But, it doesn’t have to be that way; Gaiam is here to help.
Gaiam believes in small changes and their focus is on personal development and health & wellness. They carry a vast selection of wellness tools to get you on the path to transformation, tap into your inner zen, and keep you motivated during the holidays. Here are a few of my favorites.
Mind-Body Bootcamp DVD
The Mind-Body Bootcamp DVD gives you three unique workouts to burn calories and tone muscle. Each workout is designed to challenge you physically, mentally and emotionally. “Cardio Combo” with Tanja Djelevic target all of your trouble zones in this total-body cardio blast! During this high-energy mix of yoga, Pilates and cardio, you’ll burn calories, increase strength and build stamina (30 minutes)! “Cardio Burn Yoga” with Patricia Moreno will sculpt your muscles while demolishing unwanted pounds. This form-focused yoga practice is designed to boost metabolism, build endurance and increase flexibility (32 minutes). With “Budokon Blast” with Cameron Shayne, you’ll feel the burn and get firm with the explosive movements of martial arts and then calm your mind with a peaceful closing meditation. You’ll increase your heart rate while feeling the effectiveness of precise, fluid movement (16 minutes). 78 minutes.
I’ve never heard of Budokon yoga, so I was curious to see what it involves. It’s a series of martial art movements that focus on the whole body. The movements are fast, precise and get your heart pumping. You’ll need a yoga mat and loose clothing to do this workout. It’s different, refreshing, and you feel so good afterward.
Restore Strong Back Stability Ball Kit
The Restore Back Stabilityball Kit comes with one 65cm Stability Ball, pump, and a downloadable workout. The exercise ball or Stability ball is one of the best fitness tools on the market. It’s great for developing good overall muscle tone for your entire body, plus it can be used to rehabilitating back, hip, and knee injuries and improve core stability, posture, and muscle balance.
The 3 workouts included in the kit are downloadable and focus on strengthening the back, enhancing core strength, improving balance and increasing muscle activation. The instructor is Suzanne Deason; workouts are – Daily Stress 15 minutes, Daily Workout 45 minutes & Simple Stress Relief 6 minutes.
I confess one of my weakest areas is my core, so I tend to have a sore back a lot. But, doing sit ups is hard on my back, so I feel like I’m going in circles. I found the Stability ball is gentler on the back and allowed me to perform various exercises without discomfort and pain.
Sol Studio Select Zabuton Floor Cushion
Suffering from holiday stress? When I’m overtaxed or under any pressure, I meditate. The Sol Studio Select Zabuton Floor Cushion is the perfect cushion to practice your meditation and unleash your inner peace. I’ve had to cut some meditations short because I’ve been uncomfortable or my legs go numb. I love the Zabuton Floor Cushion. It’s attractive and offers body forming cotton batting and an internal cotton cushion top, so it’s designed to improve comfort during meditation by relieving pressure from your knees, ankles and back.
The cushion is adjustable too if it doesn’t feel quite right. The exterior zipper unzips to expose the filling where you can fine-tune it to your comfort preference. You can also remove the cover and machine wash it if needed. If you’re like me, you’ll want to add a matching Round or Crescent Zafu for added comfort and height. I like the Zabuton Floor Cushion the way it is, but I also like to put a round cushion on top for added comfort. These two are the perfect combination for perfect tranquility.
Gaiam Duffle Bag
Hauling your workout gear requires a reliable and multipurpose duffle bag, and the Gaiam Duffle Bag cannot be beaten. This compact duffle is so well planned out; they’ve taken everything into consideration when designing a bag for fitness gear. It features 8 pockets total, including 2 water bottle pouches on both ends of the bag, 4 zippered pockets, an easy access inner pocket, large main compartment, and a secure yoga mat holder.
The center compartment is quite large; you can take a change of clothing and shoes and still have room for a towel, makeup and hair tools. I love the yoga mat holder. The yoga mat slides in easily and stays secure while in motion. The outside fabric is made from 100% Polyester with 100% Nylon Liner, so it’s easy to wipe clean. It’s the perfect go-to bag.
The holidays don’t have to be about overindulgence. We can still enjoy our treats but balance them out with regular works and meditation. Gaiam products would also make ideal Christmas gifts for family, friends, and importantly, yourself.
Win Mind-Body Bootcamp DVD, Stabilityball Kit & the Gaiam Dufflebag. Good Luck!
