Spring has sprung. The robins are back, plants are budding, the weather is warmer, and St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. In celebration of this magically green day, I was inspired to created a healthier version of the popular Shamrock shake.
I’m a huge fan of smoothies and I make one pretty much every day. With a few nutritious ingredients, you can whip up a yummy Shamrock Shake in a few seconds.
1 cup of spinach
2 ripe bananas (chopped and frozen)
1 cup of organic non-gmo almond milk
1 Tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp spirulina or chorella
1/4 tsp organic peppermint oil
All all your ingredients in a blender. Blend on high for 30 – 60 seconds. Serve!
Spirulina is a natural “algae” powder that is incredibly high in protein and a good source of antioxidants, B-vitamins and other nutrients. Avocados contain more potassium than banana’s, are loaded in fiber, abundant in nutrients, are good for you heart, and lower cholesterol. Spinach is low in fat and even lower in cholesterol, it’s high in niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese.
My family loves this smoothie, it’s delicious and give you lots of energy. I like to amp it up and alter the greens for variety and a balanced diet.
